Rosebank fibre connectivity project

The project involved working through the school’s existing network environment, connecting from the ONT through internal cabinets, extending fibre between buildings, and delivering the final connection into the preschool area.

Outcome

Stable, reliable and effective internet service

1. The Problem

Rosebank Early Childhood Centre had experienced ongoing internet access problems for an extended period.

The centre is located behind Rosebank Primary School, and the previous wireless arrangement was often unreliable. Although a fibre solution had been pursued, no practical result had been achieved for about two years.

The centre needed a stable internet connection for daily operations, communication, learning activities and administration.

2. Site context

Rosebank Early Childhood Centre sits at the back of the wider school site, behind Rosebank Primary School on Rosebank Road, Avondale.

Because of the site layout, the connection could not be solved by simply placing a router in the preschool. The network path had to be planned through the existing school environment, from the ONT and internal cabinets through to the ECC area at the rear of the site.

3. The solution

We designed and coordinated a practical fibre-backed network path through the existing school site to reach Rosebank Early Childhood Centre.

The connection began from the ONT inside the school, then ran through the first cabinet. From there, the network was extended by fibre to another building where a second cabinet was located.

From that point, a LAN connection was taken toward the back area of the site, with a trench run used to reach the preschool. The final connection was delivered into Rosebank ECC, providing a stable and effective internet service.

4. Equipment and setup

We optimised the use of the school’s existing network facilities to extend the fibre-backed connection through the site and reach Rosebank Early Childhood Centre at the back.

The connection started from the ONT room, then linked to the server cabinet room in the main school building. From that cabinet, the project made use of an existing fibre connection to another cabinet located in the adjacent room near the ECC.

From the cabinet near the ECC, a LAN connection was then extended to the point where a trench run was required to reach the preschool. This allowed the final connection to be delivered properly into the Rosebank ECC area.

This approach avoided unnecessary overbuilding and used the school’s existing network infrastructure more efficiently while still delivering a stable fibre-backed connection to the preschool.
